Country star Luke Bryan has revealed how he feels about Carrie Underwood as she settles into her new role as a judge on American Idol, though he couldn’t help but point out one tiny flaw.
“She’s doing a great job and really settling into the judging table,” Bryan, 48, shared on the CMA Awards red carpet on November 20.
“Carrie has the best soul and heart, and she’s awesome with the kids.”
But according to Bryan, Underwood, 41, is struggling with one key part of the job – delivering bad news.
Bryan explained: “When she has to say ‘No,’ she’s like, ‘I don’t wanna tell them no. But it’s kind of a part [of the job]. It’s hard when you got a kid that’s young and they haven’t found who they are musically.”
Bryan also gave some lighthearted advice to his fellow judge during an August interview.
“Up her therapist,” he laughed. “If she has a therapist, she’s probably going to have to double it to deal with me and Lionel [Richie].”
He even joked: “Do therapists do gift cards where I can call her therapist and gift her a voucher?”

Underwood, who rose to fame as the winner of American Idol Season 4 in 2005, replaced Katy Perry on the judges’ panel earlier this year.
The announcement on Good Morning America was a full-circle moment, complete with throwback footage of her audition in St. Louis nearly two decades ago.
“I went from nobody knowing my name to tens of millions of people watching the show,” Underwood reflected in the clip.
